Robotics Foundation

Your child will learn programming and principles of robot construction, using the Lego Mindstorms system. Students will have to incorporate physics concepts and block programming to fulfil mini- missions at the end of each lesson.

Term 1: Jan-Mar 2017

Sat 9am-11am / Sun 1pm-3pm

2-hr trial class = $40

12 weeks/term = $960

Robotics Elective

Students who have already gone through the foundation of Robotics will be given opportunities to work on different spectrum of robotics projects using LEGO EV3 Mindstorms. In this class, students will be heavily involved in the discussions of important features of a robot. For example, in designing a crane, some of the important aspects of a crane is a stable base, a strong arm, and a motor. They will be guided through these educational discussions and they will construct the hardware themselves. Programming comes after construction and they are free to explore different combination of codes that will help them achieve their goal. The difficulties of projects are gradually increasing to promote students' creativity and understanding.

3D Design & Printing Foundation

Students gain deeper understanding of 3D design by using the advanced features of Autodesk 123D to design and multi-part objects. Take 3D design to the next level with Google Sketchup and SolidWorks. Learn to create realistic solutions for real-life problems.

3D Design & Printing Elective

The theme chosen for 3D Design elective this term is Pokémon. For the first half of the course students will be given a series of challenges to design characters or items from the franchise. This will serve as a foundation to the second part of the course as students learn more about the character details, such as their facial expression, special body parts (wings, tails, etc). Using the knowledge and experience they gain from the first part of the course, students will then embark on a design project where they will create their very own Pokemon character

Coding Elective

Coding elective is designed for kids who have prior experience in Scratch and would like to turn their ideas and imaginations into a real program. They will be learning how to recreate different types of games such as brick breaker (a retro-classic game from the olden days Blackberry phone), role-playing games, side-scroller/platformer game (Super Mario!), and many more. There are endless possibilities in this class and kids will be challenged to keep thinking, exploring, and developing their ideas through games.

Mini-MBA

The Mini-MBA seeks to develop the entrepreneurial spirit in students. This is done through a combined understanding of leadership, money sense and communication. Students become more self-aware of their leadership styles and learn to manage groups of disparate personality types. Money sense equips students with the understanding of business types, wealth and investment, as well as basic business accounting. Lastly, communication skills are imparted to students to learn about formal presentations and speech, together with etiquette and grooming for formal occasions.
